Race Case

On February 26th, 2012 a young man named Trayvon Martin was on his way back home from a convenience store where he bought a tea and skittles. We all know what happened next. The death of Trayvon Martin has sparked a new division between blacks and whites. However, it should be noted that Zimmerman is of Hispanic and Caucasian descent. But this has gone largely unnoticed by the public, and the media. What does race really have to do with this tragic case? Why has it become a 'Race Case'? Why is it so impossible to get past race and difference and come to gather to mourn the loss of an innocent young man? In no way am I on George Zimmerman's side in this case, but I do not want our country to lose any unity it has inched its way towards over the past 40 years.

 

The Media's Role 

Recently it has come to light that NBC edited 911 calls from Zimmerman where he reportedly volunteered the information that Trayvon was 'black'. Later, it was realized that the dispatcher actually had asked Zimmerman if the man he was following was 'black, white, or Hispanic' to which he responded, 'black'. NBC has since came out and apologized for 'accidentally' editing the tapes. Editing these tapes is a major issue because of the fact that this case is already race sensitive. It is vital for the media to stay neutral and certainly not incite the public into violence or division. But what reason would the media have to start or motivate a race war?

Is it possible that the mainstream media is controlled by higher ups that have a different agenda than uniting the country? Not only is it possible, it is fact. Those who own CNN, FOX, NBC all have billionaire owners that push forward their own agendas.  For example, NBC is owned by General Electric. GE's current CEO and President is Jeffrey Immelt who is also a financial adviser to President Obama. These connections to the government only start there. My question is how can we be so blind as to the intentions of the media? We have to make individual distinctions from truth and the constant gray area the media plays in.

Change of Attitude

I want to implore the American people to remember that while this is a tragic murder that should be investigated further, we cannot forget who is perpetuating this new race war. Nor can we forget how tragic it would be to fall prey to this trap. Instead we should unite to expose those who are the powers that be and the enslavement they have put us all under. They ship drugs into the poorest of neighborhoods using the cloak of drug abuse to imprison those of all races, but specifically those for whom the system has made it all but impossible to get rich, minorities. Look past the theater curtain and you will see who really is behind it using our differences against us.
