Freedom

The definition of freedom varies, but in general it means void of constraint free to do as you please, or a feeling of elation knowing you answer to no one. In the U.S. people experience a level of freedom those in other places of the world would love to have. However, this freedom is becoming increasingly limited. In order to define our freedoms we must define what is deemed out of the reach of freedom.

Illegal drugs are a topic of hot debate in this country because of the effects they can have on us. Drugs like heroin and methamphetamine have drastic consequences for those who come under their influence. However, there are milder drugs such as Marijuana that have positive effects on people with numerous health problems. Why is it beyond the limits of freedom to use this so-called 'drug'? In fact, Americans who support medical marijuana are in the majority now compared to times past. See the Mason-Dixion Poll Here. So why, if the majority of Americans feel their fellow citizens should be allowed to use marijuana, does the government repress such freedom? Well there are several factors that I will briefly examine here.

Religion and Freedom

Many base their claim against drugs on religious beliefs. If this is the base for their argument it will mean imposing their morality on others. Is this freedom? If we are free shouldn't we be able to decide for ourselves what is good and what is bad for our bodies? In some areas we are. When it comes to alcohol we are left at our own disposal to decide what our limits our, even though this could end up being fatal. But that is the risk we take, and the risk is understood by all who partake in it. While individuals are free to practice any religion they choose they are not allowed to force their beliefs on others. Unfortunately those given governmental authority fail to distinguish this line. Instead they choose to blur the line and impose their personal religious system on the entire country.

Please Tell Me What To Do

See this is the real issue, Americans have gotten accustomed to being told what to do. Total reliance on the government to decide what we should do is commonplace. This is evident by our acceptance of such agencies as the FDA, EPA, and TSA. Even though we know the people who work for these agencies are imperfect we expect the administration itself to be infallible. What a joke! Of course, the media once again plays its part in telling us how badly we need the government, as if we are incapable of running our own lives.

The Truth About Freedom

The simple truth of why we are not truly free is that those who run our government do not want us to be. These individuals run our media,  food,  and water. They do not want us to use drugs like marijuana because they understand the health benefits that come from it. In fact, some research has concluded that the plant may help patients with cancer effectively curing the disease. See the PBS documentary on this topic by clicking here. Imagine how much money big pharma would lose if marijuana did in fact cure cancer. They would go ape shit! This is just one example of how our freedoms are suppressed. If we as people want to be free we have to take responsibility for our lives and quit relying on the government to kiss our boo boos. Wake up America, because this could be the last chance to save our freedom.
